The ___ are cold.
We want ___, please.

Before reading

  • Look at the cover. What do you see?
  • Have you ever written a letter?
  • What do animals need when it is cold?

After reading

  • What did the cows want?
  • Why did they write a letter?
  • Was the farmer happy? Why or why not?
  • What would you ask for?

How to teach it

  1. Open the PowerPoint. Ask the "before reading" questions and teach the new words with the flashcards.
  2. Hand out one flashcard per child. Read the book aloud. Children hold up their card when they hear their word.
  3. Practise the sentence pattern together, then play the picture game in the slides.
  4. Ask the "after reading" questions.
  5. Finish with the printable project: Write a Letter to the Farmer.
