Sentence practice

I like the ___ crayon.

Before reading

  • Look at the cover. What do you see?
  • What is your favourite colour?
  • What do you colour red?

After reading

  • Why were the crayons upset?
  • Which crayon was the most tired?
  • What did the boy draw at the end?

How to teach it

  1. Open the PowerPoint. Ask the "before reading" questions and teach the new words with the flashcards.
  2. Hand out one flashcard per child. Read the book aloud. Children hold up their card when they hear their word.
  3. Practise the sentence pattern together, then play the picture game in the slides.
  4. Ask the "after reading" questions.
  5. Finish with the printable project: Happy Crayons.
