Sentence practice

I feel ___.

Before reading

  • Look at the cover. What do you see?
  • How do you feel on the first day of school?
  • Who gives you a hug?

After reading

  • Why was the little raccoon sad?
  • What did his mother give him?
  • How did he feel at the end?

How to teach it

  1. Open the PowerPoint. Ask the "before reading" questions and teach the new words with the flashcards.
  2. Hand out one flashcard per child. Read the book aloud. Children hold up their card when they hear their word.
  3. Practise the sentence pattern together, then play the picture game in the slides.
  4. Ask the "after reading" questions.
  5. Finish with the printable project: My Kissing Hand.
